This deeply personal narrative reflects on a solo spring hike that became an emotional turning point after a challenging year. Set in the quiet woods of Lake Jacomo, the piece explores the healing power of nature, solitude, and the courage to follow curiosity — even when the path is steep.
Excerpt from the Post:
“I spend a lot of time at Lake Jacomo. The marina is one of my favorite places to park and watch the water. I’d spent many nights listening to the owl across the black body of water, wondering how to get over to the beauty there. Turning the bend, I realized I’d found the other side. The water glimmered majestically through the trees, and the monotonous brown ground became vibrant with oranges and reds. The trees were even more sparse, opening the curtain to the majestic water. I’d wondered what this side of the lake looked like; it did not disappoint. I continued to trek slowly along the path, but now, I wanted to spend as much time surrounded by the beautiful wonder I’d stumbled upon. It was the best-kept secret, hidden in plain sight. Trees had fallen from the harsh winds the week before, adding to the journey. Was this what every adventurer felt when they first left home? I ventured on.”
